JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) has started to re-optimize the utilization of sports facilities in the Lukas Enembe Stadium area, Kampung Harapan, Jayapura Regency. The reopening of a number of facilities is expected to revive community sports activities as well as support the development of athletes in Papua.
Reopened facilities include Lukas Enembe Stadium, Istora, and athletic track. Previously, a number of sports facilities were closed following a commotion incident that occurred in May 2026.
Acting (Plt) Head of the Papuan Sports and Youth Service (Disorda), Laurens Wantik, said that the reopening of the facility is part of the government’s efforts so that the sports facilities that have been built can be used optimally.
According to him, the facility is not only intended for the implementation of matches, but can also be used to support various community sports activities and athlete development.
One of the uses that is being prepared is the use of Lukas Enembe Stadium as the home of Persipura Jayapura. The stadium is scheduled to be the venue for the match of the team nicknamed Mutiara Hitam in November 2026.
However, the use of the stadium for matches is still limited. For the time being, only the north and south stands are allowed to be used by spectators.
Laurens appealed to the supporters and the public to comply with the provisions that have been set, especially regarding the use of the stands and the capacity of spectators. Compliance with these rules is considered important to maintain safety and comfort during the match.
The reopening of the sports facility in the Lukas Enembe Stadium area is a step to restore the function of the facility as the center of sports activities in Papua. The government hopes that its existence can be used sustainably, both for the benefit of athlete coaching, organizing competitions, and community sports activities.
