OJK Papua Encourages 75 Integrated Public School Students to Build the Habit of Saving from an Early Age

Jayapura – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Papua Province continues to encourage the improvement of financial literacy among students as a step to form a young generation that is able to manage finances wisely and independently. The effort was carried out through financial education for students of Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi (SR) 75 Jayapura.

The Head of OJK Papua Province, Fatwa Aulia, said that the understanding of financial management needs to be introduced from school age so that students get used to distinguishing between needs and desires and be able to use money appropriately.

“Through the activities of Indonesia Saving Day (HIM) and the Peak of Financial Literacy Month (BLK), we hope that the students especially at the Integrated People’s School 75 can build the habit of saving from an early age,” said the Fatwa after the HIM and BLK activities at the Integrated People’s School Hall 75 Jayapura, Thursday.

According to him, financial literacy is not only related to the ability to save money, but also how someone understands the planning, use, and management of finances responsibly. This knowledge is considered important as a provision for students in facing financial needs in the future.

Strengthening the saving culture in the HIM 2026 activity is also realized through the ceremony of opening a Student Savings Account (SimPel) for participants. The program is expected to provide direct experience to students in getting to know formal financial services as well as accustoming them to set aside some of the money they have for future needs.

Fatwa explained, the education is increasingly strengthened through collaboration with the Financial Services Industry (IJK). Students not only get an understanding of the importance of saving, but also introduced to various financial services products and services and how to utilize them safely and responsibly.

“We want students to have a good understanding of financial products and services, so that when they use them, they can do it properly, wisely, and according to their needs,” he said.

Through these activities, OJK Papua hopes that financial literacy can be a part of the daily habits of students. Simple habits such as saving, planning the use of money, and understanding the benefits and risks of financial services are expected to form a healthy financial management pattern from an early age.

The financial education program at Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi 75 is also part of the effort to expand public access and understanding of the financial services sector. By equipping the young generation since school, OJK encourages the birth of the Papuan generation that not only has academic ability, but also has the ability to make financial decisions responsibly.
