Nabire – The Central Papua Provincial Government has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to human resource development by allocating IDR 229.4 million in educational assistance to 61 students of Rusel Theological College (STT Rusel) in Timika, Mimika Regency.
The scholarships are aimed at supporting students in semesters three, five, seven, as well as those in their final year, ensuring the continuity of their academic journey through to graduation.
This initiative forms part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to prepare a new generation of highly capable Papuans who can effectively manage and maximize the region’s abundant natural resources. The government emphasized that sustainable development must be built on strong and competitive human capital.
Education has been positioned as a cornerstone of Central Papua’s development agenda, both in mountainous areas and coastal regions, as part of efforts to break the cycle of underdevelopment. The financial assistance is specifically allocated to address students’ academic needs at STT Rusel, located on C. Heatubun Street, Kwamki Baru.
The scholarship program is expected to open wider access to higher education for indigenous Papuan students, enabling them to complete their studies on time while strengthening intellectual capacity and character development. The STT Rusel academic community has welcomed the provincial government’s consistent focus on improving the quality of human resources in Mimika Regency.
“Strengthening the education sector is a long-term investment in the future of Papua,” the Central Papua Provincial Government stated in an official release received on Saturday (January 3, 2026).
The government acknowledged that infrastructure development alone will not yield meaningful progress without being accompanied by the growth of skilled, educated, and competitive Papuan human resources.
Under the leadership of Governor Meki Nawipa, the Central Papua Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring that scholarship distribution is well-targeted and reaches students who genuinely require financial support. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to utilize the assistance responsibly to support their studies and the completion of their final research projects.
This financial support has become a significant boost for the academic community of STT Rusel in carrying out its educational and theological mission, while contributing to the sustainable development of human resources in Central Papua.
