Jayapura – Religious leaders in Papua have called for a humanitarian pause amid escalating conflict in several parts of the region to ensure the protection of civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected communities.
The appeal was made out of concern for the welfare of local residents, particularly women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups who continue to bear the impact of the ongoing security situation.
The religious leaders emphasized that humanitarian considerations should remain a shared priority for all parties, with civilian safety placed above all else. They urged stakeholders to create humanitarian corridors that would allow affected communities to access healthcare services, education, and other essential needs without disruption.
According to the religious figures, a humanitarian pause would also provide an opportunity for displaced residents and conflict-affected communities to receive adequate protection and support. They noted that such a measure could contribute to creating a more conducive environment for addressing various challenges facing Papua.
The leaders further encouraged all parties to prioritize dialogue and peaceful approaches in responding to the evolving situation. They stressed that efforts grounded in humanitarian values, mutual respect, and brotherhood are essential to maintaining peace and stability across Papua.
Meanwhile, the government and security authorities continue efforts to maintain public order and security throughout the region. Various development initiatives, healthcare services, educational programs, and community outreach activities are also being implemented to improve the welfare of Papuan communities.
Through their appeal, the religious leaders expressed hope that all elements of society would work together to foster a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment, enabling Papuans to carry out their daily activities in security and benefit from ongoing development programs.
