From Friendly Greetings to Purchasing Local Goods: Operation Damai Cartenz Police Task Force’s Human-Centric Patrol Warms the Atmosphere at Oksibil Market

OKSIBIL, HIGHLAND PAPUA – Amidst the bustle of the Old Oksibil Market in Pegunungan Bintang Regency on Friday (October 9, 2026), personnel from the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force engaged with the community—greeting residents, chatting with vendors, and even purchasing their goods. These simple interactions were part of a human-centric patrol designed to strengthen ties with the public while maintaining a stable security environment.

While visiting the market area, the personnel did more than just monitor the situation; they took the time to communicate directly with residents going about their daily activities. Friendly greetings and casual conversations flowed between the officers and vendors, fostering a sense of rapport amidst the trading activities.

The personnel also purchased various goods from the locals as a gesture of support for the community’s economic activities. Their presence at the market provided an opportunity to listen to and interact directly with the public in a relaxed setting, without compromising their security duties.

This approach demonstrates that fostering a sense of security involves more than just monitoring conditions; it also requires building communication, respecting the community, and being present during their daily routines.

The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Inspector General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that a human-centric approach is a vital component of the Task Force’s mission, particularly in building public trust.

“Security is not solely about maintaining a stable environment; it is also about establishing communication and trust with the community. We want our personnel’s presence to be perceived positively through courteous behavior, genuine care, and constructive interactions with residents,” said the Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026. Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Senior Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., reminded personnel to always prioritize a humanistic approach and show respect for the community while carrying out their duties.

“Personnel must prioritize a humanistic attitude, respect the community, and build good relationships with all segments of the population. Effective communication is expected to help foster a sense of security among the public,” said the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026.

Engelbertus Uropmabin, a resident of Pegunungan Bintang, expressed appreciation for the activity. According to him, the presence of personnel—greeting residents and interacting with vendors—creates an opportunity for the community to establish positive communication with security forces.

“We appreciate the presence of the Operation Damai Cartenz Police Task Force personnel who come out directly to greet the community and interact with vendors. Such a presence provides a sense of security and comfort, and demonstrates that the authorities also wish to build good relationships with the community,” he said.

Engelbertus hopes that these humanistic patrols will continue on a sustained basis to further strengthen the bond between security forces and the community. He considers good communication a crucial element in supporting security as well as the smooth functioning of residents’ social and economic activities.

Through humanistic patrols at the Oksibil Old Market, the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force aims to foster a sense of security through interactions closely connected to the community’s daily life. Friendly greetings, simple conversations, and support for vendors are all part of the effort to build mutually respectful relationships, ultimately creating a safe and comfortable atmosphere in Pegunungan Bintang Regency.
