JAYAPURA, Papua — Tabi traditional leader and Ondofolo of Sereh Village, Yanto Eluay, has expressed concern over a shooting incident that killed three civil servants in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Highlands.
The incident has drawn public attention as the victims were civil servants carrying out their duties and serving local communities. Yanto Eluay conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families and urged people across Papua not to be provoked and to work together to maintain a peaceful and stable security situation.
He said conflicts and disputes in Papua should not be resolved through violence. According to him, communities have an important role in maintaining a safe environment by strengthening communication, fostering solidarity and respecting one another’s lives.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We call on all Papuans to work together to keep Papua safe and peaceful. Do not be easily provoked, and do not respond to violence with violence. Let us respect one another, maintain our brotherhood and resolve every issue peacefully, because Papua is our shared home,” Yanto Eluay said.
He also encouraged communities to strengthen unity and not provide space for actions that could cause public unrest or disrupt daily activities. A stable security situation, he said, is important to ensure that people can continue their daily lives and that development programs across various sectors can proceed.
Yanto Eluay further called on people from diverse backgrounds to take part in maintaining peace in Papua. He emphasized that creating a safe environment is not solely the responsibility of security forces, but also requires the concern and participation of all elements of society.
The Tabi traditional leader also urged communities to resolve disputes through dialogue and applicable legal mechanisms, rather than through actions that could result in casualties or create further problems within communities.
Through his message, Yanto Eluay called on the people of Papua to remain calm, uphold unity and work together to create a safe and peaceful environment across the region.
