Jayapura – The Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) continues to strive to increase the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) as one of the drivers of the regional economy. Through the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises (Perindagkop and UKM), the government provides training focused on strengthening business legality, improving management capacity, and utilizing digital technology to expand the market.
The program is designed so that MSMEs are not only able to produce quality products, but also have administrative completeness and business legality which is an important requirement in developing a sustainable business.
Assistant II for Development and People’s Welfare of the Jayapura City Regional Secretariat, Abdul Majid, said that the training is part of the local government’s commitment in equipping MSMEs with various complete business instruments, so that they can increase the competitiveness of local products.
“The training held by the Perindagkop Office aims to equip MSMEs with complete and legal business instruments, so that they have the readiness to develop their business professionally,” he said in Jayapura, Wednesday.
In the activity, the participants obtained various materials related to business development, starting from the understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and trademark registration as product identity protection, to the implementation of Household Industry Food Standards (P-IRT) to ensure the quality and safety of the products marketed.
In addition, MSMEs also receive a briefing on healthy and accountable financial management, digital marketing strategies, the utilization of financing facilities through the People’s Business Credit (KUR), the fulfillment of tax obligations, and the acceleration of the management of the Business Owner Number (NIB) as a form of business legality.
According to Abdul Majid, Jayapura City as the economic gateway in Papua has great potential in producing business people who are able to compete at the national and international levels. Therefore, local governments continue to encourage the increase of UMKM capacity to be able to adapt to the development of the increasingly competitive business world.
“Through this training, we hope that MSMEs can move up the class, expand their market share, and not only be able to compete in Jayapura City, but also penetrate the national and even global markets by utilizing the digital ecosystem,” he said.
The Jayapura City Government is optimistic that strengthening business legality along with increasing human resource capacity will have a positive impact on regional economic growth. With MSMEs that are increasingly professional, innovative, and have wider market access, the micro business sector is expected to be an important pillar in creating jobs, increasing community income, and strengthening economic resilience in Jayapura City.
