Jayapura – The government continues to strengthen security stability in Papua as part of its efforts to maintain public safety while ensuring the sustainability of various development programs. This effort is being implemented through synergy between the central government, regional governments, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), traditional leaders, religious leaders, academics, the press, and all elements of society. Strengthening security is seen as a crucial prerequisite for ensuring that public services, infrastructure development, improved health and education services, and economic empowerment programs reach all regions, including remote areas in Papua.
The Chief of the Papua Regional Police, Inspector General Patrige Renwarin, stated that efforts to maintain security prioritize a predictive, responsive, and adaptive approach while respecting local wisdom. “Security in Papua cannot be achieved by the authorities alone. Synergy between the government, TNI, Polri, traditional leaders, religious leaders, academics, the media, and the community is key to creating a secure environment so that development can be felt by all residents,” he said in a written statement quoted on Friday (July 3, 2026).
The government emphasizes that the violent acts perpetrated by the Free Papua Movement (OPM) not only disrupt security stability but also impact community activities, public services, and development implementation in various regions. Therefore, in addition to enforcing the law against perpetrators of violence, the government continues to strengthen a dialogical approach, public services, respect for human rights, and community empowerment as part of a strategy to maintain long-term stability.
Furthermore, various national strategic programs continue to be promoted in Papua, ranging from the Free Nutritional Meal Program, strengthening food security, improving health and education services, infrastructure development, and overseeing investments that are expected to create jobs and improve community welfare.
The government is optimistic that collaboration between all stakeholders will further strengthen security stability in Papua. With a conducive situation, the community is expected to be able to carry out productive activities, while development and public services are optimized to realize a peaceful, advanced, and prosperous Papua.
