Nabire – In an effort to strengthen the supervision and control of subsidized fuel distribution, the Nabire Regency Government has issued a new Circular Letter regulating the purchase mechanism of subsidized fuel for the public.
Under the policy, which came into effect on June 19, 2026, only vehicles bearing Central Papua (PT) license plates, registered in Nabire Regency, and equipped with a valid barcode and active vehicle registration documents are eligible to purchase subsidized fuel.
Nabire Regent Mesak Magai stated that vehicles from outside the region operating in Nabire will be given a one-month grace period to complete their registration transfer process. The policy is expected to improve the accuracy of vehicle data while supporting more effective monitoring of subsidized fuel distribution.
To reduce congestion and long queues at fuel stations, the government has also implemented an odd-even license plate system for subsidized fuel purchases. In addition, vehicles older than 15 years are restricted to purchasing subsidized fuel a maximum of two times per week.
The regional government emphasized that official government vehicles, company-owned vehicles, and vehicles that do not meet administrative requirements will not be eligible to purchase subsidized fuel. Fuel station operators are also required to consistently enforce these regulations.
The Nabire Regency Government hopes that these measures will promote a more transparent fuel distribution system, reduce misuse of subsidized fuel, and ensure that fuel subsidies are distributed fairly to those who genuinely need them.
