Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized the importance of peace in Papua.
He emphasized that the government continues to strive for equitable development throughout Indonesia, including in Papua.
Vice President Gibran made this statement while opening the 14th National Church Choir Festival (Pesparawi) 2026 in Manokwari, West Papua, as quoted by Antaranews, Saturday (June 20, 2026).
“Development requires a conducive and peaceful environment. Therefore, I appreciate the theme of this year’s Pesparawi, which highlights peace and brotherhood in Papua,” said Gibran.
Gibran then specifically welcomed the use of Borarsi Field for the church choir festival.
Recalling that during his visit in November 2025, Borarsi Field was still under construction.
He advised the community to maintain the completed facilities.
According to Gibran, the facilities built are proof that development is now not only concentrated on Java but also in other regions.
These include the construction of hospitals, the Trans-Papua highway, public schools, fishing villages, and the provision of free nutritious meals (MBG).
“We hope this will reduce inequality, expand access, and improve the welfare of the Papuan people,” he said.
Gibran will conduct a working visit to the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, West Papua, and South Papua from June 18-21, 2026.
On the final day of his working visit, Sunday (June 21), the Vice President will continue his agenda to Asmat Regency, South Papua, to inspect several public facilities, including the Asmat Museum of Culture and Progress, the Sago Field School, Agats Regional Hospital, and the Holy Cross Cathedral Church.
