Mimika – The commitment of the Mimika Police Resort (Polres Mimika) to combating narcotics trafficking has once again yielded significant results. Throughout 2026, the Narcotics Investigation Unit (Satresnarkoba) of Polres Mimika successfully uncovered a number of drug abuse and trafficking cases, with seized evidence estimated to be worth approximately Rp2.7 billion.
The achievement was announced by Mimika Police Chief, AKBP Billyandha Hildiario Budiman, during a press conference held at the Mimika Police Headquarters in Mile 32 on Thursday (June 4, 2026).
During the briefing, the Police Chief explained that the confiscated evidence included nearly one kilogram of methamphetamine, 3.2 kilograms of marijuana, tens of thousands of grams of synthetic tobacco, and dozens of prescription-strength pills suspected to have been intended for distribution within Mimika Regency.
According to him, the successful disclosure of these cases represents a concrete effort to break the chain of narcotics trafficking that poses serious threats to public health, security, and the future of the community.
“If all of these narcotics had reached the public, their estimated market value would have been around Rp2.7 billion. More importantly, we have prevented the harmful consequences that drug abuse could have caused,” said the Police Chief.
In addition to confiscating various types of narcotics and controlled substances, the Narcotics Investigation Unit has also identified and arrested 17 suspects between January and June 2026. This figure reflects an increase in case disclosures compared to the same period last year.
The Police Chief noted that the drug threat in Mimika has become increasingly complex, affecting people from various social backgrounds and age groups. This situation, he said, remains a major concern for law enforcement agencies as they intensify prevention and enforcement efforts.
He emphasized that the fight against narcotics requires strong cooperation among law enforcement agencies, local government authorities, community leaders, religious figures, educational institutions, and the public at large.
“The eradication of narcotics cannot be carried out by the police alone. It requires awareness, cooperation, and active participation from all stakeholders to protect the younger generation from the dangers of drugs and to maintain a safe and productive community environment,” he stressed.
Looking ahead, Polres Mimika will continue to strengthen early detection measures, public awareness campaigns, and firm law enforcement actions against all forms of narcotics trafficking as part of its commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and drug-free Mimika Regency.
