The spirit of brotherhood and nationalism colors the commemoration of the 209th Pattimura Captain’s Day which was held by the Big Family of the Maluku Family Association (IKEMAL) of Papua through a torch running activity as far as 47 kilometers from Jayapura Regency to Jayapura City, Thursday night (5/14/2026).
The activity that started at 20.00 WIT became a symbol of the struggle, unity, and spirit of the young generation of Maluku in Papua in maintaining national values and strengthening the togetherness of citizens in Papua.
The torch release procession was carried out directly by the Deputy Regent of Jayapura, Haris Richard S. Yocku, who handed the torch to the runners before the journey began to the Papua Governor’s Office.
The General Chairman of IKEMAL Tanah Papua period 2026–2031, Christian Sohilait, said that Pattimura’s torch run is not just a ceremonial activity, but a symbol of the fighting spirit of the young generation to continue to build Papua, Maluku, and Indonesia in the framework of unity.
According to him, the spirit of Kapitan Pattimura’s struggle must continue to be passed on to the young generation as a motivation to maintain solidarity, tolerance, and love for the homeland.
The Pattimura torch is scheduled to arrive at the Papua Governor’s Office on Friday morning, May 15, 2026, right in the momentum of the 209th Pattimura Day commemoration. After arriving, the torch will be temporarily kept in the State Building until the implementation of the state reception as part of the memorial peak.
The warning is also a momentum to strengthen the family relationship of the Maluku people in Papua as well as showing the spirit of diversity that continues to live in the midst of the Papuan people.
