Jakarta — The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has prepared hundreds of personnel for deployment to Central Papua and North Maluku to reinforce security and respond to the evolving public order situation in both regions.
A readiness check for Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel assigned to Central Papua was conducted on Saturday (April 4, 2026) at 12:00 WIB at the Brimob Headquarters. The inspection was led directly by the Deputy Chief of Police.
Head of Public Information Bureau of the Police Public Relations Division, Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated that the deployed force consists of 100 Brimob personnel for Central Papua, eight personnel from the Inspectorate Supervision Team (Itwasum) assigned to both regions, 10 personnel from the Intelligence and Security Agency (BIK) for Central Papua, 26 personnel from the Professional and Security Division (Divpropam) distributed across the two regions, and 20 personnel from the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) for Central Papua.
“For North Maluku, 12 Divpropam personnel were dispatched on Saturday morning using a Beechcraft aircraft. Meanwhile, four Itwasum personnel are still in the process of securing flight arrangements,” he said on Sunday (April 5, 2026).
Meanwhile, a total of 148 joint personnel assigned to Central Papua are scheduled to depart early Sunday at 01:00 WIB on a Batik Air flight bound for Nabire.
According to Trunoyudo, the reinforcement follows recent security developments in several areas. In Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, a clash between residents was triggered by an alleged murder case in Bobane Jaya Village.
The situation escalated into violent clashes between residents of Bobane Jaya and Sibenpopo villages, resulting in casualties as well as damage to homes, public facilities, and a place of worship. Joint personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and Polri, along with local authorities, responded swiftly to contain the conflict, and the situation gradually returned to normal by Friday afternoon.
In a separate incident in Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua, a police officer, Bripda Juventus Edowai, was fatally assaulted by unidentified individuals. Polri reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security stability and responding promptly to developments on the ground.
“Polri has taken swift measures by deploying additional personnel to strengthen security and handle the situation in Central Papua and North Maluku. We are also prioritizing a humanistic approach alongside law enforcement against perpetrators of violence,” he said.
He also urged the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by unverified information.
“We call on all members of the public to help maintain a conducive security situation and not be influenced by hoaxes or provocations that could worsen the situation,” he added.
At present, Polri continues to conduct in-depth investigations into both the murder case in Central Halmahera and the attack on police personnel in Dogiyai, while ensuring that security conditions in both regions remain under control.
