Timika – The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 has revealed further developments in a case involving violence and the robbery of firearms that occurred at Mile 50, Tembagapura area, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, on February 11, 2026.
The Head Of Public Relation of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, Cheif Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., stated to the media on Friday (March 6, 2026) that officers had successfully secured one suspect involved in the incident.
“On Thursday, March 5, 2026, we successfully secured one suspect identified as Kalimak Wanimbo, also known as Lalam Wanimbo or Jengkol Lalam. The suspect was involved in planning the violent attack as well as the robbery of firearms carried out by the group led by Jeki Murib and his associates,” said the Head Of Public Relation of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026.
He explained that the suspect acted as an intermediary who connected the victims with the perpetrators so they could board a TNI vehicle heading to the Tembagapura area.
Upon arriving at Mile 50, Tembagapura, the victims were attacked by the group. The incident resulted in two fatalities, namely Sertu Arifin Cepa and a civilian, Erman Rustaman, while another TNI member, Serka Hendrikus, suffered serious injuries.
The arrest of Kalimak Wanimbo in Ilaga, Puncak Regency, was the result of further investigation following the earlier arrest of another suspect, Nis Kogoya, who was apprehended on February 17, 2026, in SP-3 Timika, Mimika Regency.
“Nis Kogoya played a role in preparing the vehicle used by Jeki Murib and his group to travel to the residence of the late Sertu Arifin Cepa and was also involved in planning the violent attack,” he added.
Based on intensive investigations, authorities also discovered that Kalimak Wanimbo frequently communicated with one of the leaders of the armed criminal group (KKB), Aibon Kogoya.
Both suspects have been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 458 paragraph (3), Article 479 paragraph (3), Article 468 paragraph (2), and Article 262 paragraphs (3) and (4) in conjunction with Article 21 of Law Number 1 of 2023. They face a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment or life imprisonment.
“We must remain patient—slowly but surely. We are committed to ensuring that the state is present not only to maintain peace in Papua but also to enforce the law against acts of violence carried out by armed criminal groups,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that the arrest reflects the authorities’ commitment to law enforcement against violent acts committed by armed criminal groups in Papua.
“This arrest is the result of the hard work of our personnel in the field who conducted intensive investigation and case development. We will continue pursuing other individuals involved in the Jeki Murib network. The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz remains committed to enforcing the law firmly while maintaining a professional and measured approach to ensure security stability in Papua,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Cheif Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., urged the public to remain calm and support authorities in maintaining security in Papua.
“We urge the public not to be easily influenced by misleading information and to continue supporting security forces in maintaining a safe and conducive public security situation. Community participation is very important in providing information if they notice suspicious activities that may disrupt security,” he said.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security stability in Papua through firm law enforcement against acts of violence that threaten public safety.
