NABIRE — Badan Pusat Statistik Kabupaten Nabire is prioritizing a humane and community-centered approach in the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census by deploying 200 field officers to reach all levels of business actors across the region. The activity is scheduled to take place from May to July 2026, covering 15 districts, 9 urban villages, and 72 villages throughout Nabire Regency.
Head of BPS Nabire, Dio Ginting, stated that recruitment for census officers will open in March 2026, with priority given to applicants who have previous experience in field surveys. Selected candidates will undergo training in April to ensure they are well-prepared to interact politely, communicatively, and professionally while collecting data within the community.
The census will be conducted in stages. In May 2026, medium and large-scale enterprises (UMB), including legally incorporated companies, will participate in a self-enumeration process by submitting their data online. Subsequently, from June to July 2026, BPS officers will conduct direct door-to-door data collection to reach micro and small businesses, both conventional and digital.
Dio explained that the Economic Census, which is carried out every 10 years, is now adapting to current developments. While the 2016 census showed that most businesses were still conventional, the 2026 census will place significant emphasis on digital business actors, whose growth has accelerated rapidly in recent years.
“We aim to capture a comprehensive picture of the community’s economy. Not only conventional businesses, but also online entrepreneurs who utilize platforms such as WhatsApp, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, including content creators who earn income from YouTube or TikTok,” he said.
According to him, collecting data on digital economic activities presents unique challenges, as many entrepreneurs do not have fixed office locations. Therefore, a door-to-door approach is considered a strategic step, enabling officers to engage in direct dialogue and gather information in a more personal and thorough manner.
Prior to the census implementation, BPS Nabire has also begun mapping online economic activities across various digital platforms as preparation for field verification. Through this approach, the collected data is expected to provide a more accurate and comprehensive picture of the real economic conditions of the community, thereby improving the accuracy of the calculation of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP).
Through the 2026 Economic Census, BPS Nabire hopes to foster active public participation so that the data collection process runs smoothly and serves as a solid foundation for more targeted development planning that supports shared prosperity.
