Jayapura – The Pemerintah Provinsi Papua (Papua Provincial Government) has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning digitalization as a central pillar in maintaining economic stability and sustaining regional growth amid global economic challenges and national dynamics.
The statement was delivered during a regional development coordination meeting held in Jayapura this week. During the forum, provincial officials emphasized that digital transformation is a strategic move to strengthen Papua’s economic foundation in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
According to the provincial administration, digitalization goes beyond the mere adoption of technology. It represents a broader reform in governance and an effort to reinforce the real sector of the economy. The initiative includes the implementation of electronic-based government systems, expansion of cashless transactions in traditional markets, and capacity-building programs for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The government views digital transformation as an effective solution to address Papua’s vast geography and limited access in several remote areas. Through technology-driven systems, public services can be delivered more efficiently, transparently, and quickly, while also providing broader market access for local businesses.
Several concrete measures have been implemented, including strengthening information technology infrastructure, expanding internet connectivity across districts and municipalities, conducting digital literacy training for MSMEs, and enhancing collaboration with the banking sector to accelerate financial inclusion. The adoption of electronic payment systems is also being intensified to improve transaction accountability and promote a digital-based economy.
The Papua Provincial Government expressed optimism that, with adaptive human resources and strong synergy with the central government and other stakeholders, digital transformation will effectively safeguard regional economic growth while improving the welfare of communities across the province.
