Jayapura – Adat Tabi community leader Andreas Taurui expressed deep condolences over the deaths of two pilots and several workers in a recent violent incident in Papua.
“As indigenous people, we deeply regret this tragedy. In God’s Word it is clearly stated: do not kill. No one is justified in taking a human life,” he said.
According to him, the incident has not only left the victims’ families in mourning but has also caused widespread concern among the people of Papua. He noted that the impact has extended to humanitarian services, with several community health centers and medical facilities in a number of regencies forced to close due to the security situation.
“This condition disrupts public services. Those who suffer the most are ordinary people who rely on healthcare services and humanitarian assistance,” he stated.
As a representative of indigenous communities in the Land of Papua, he, along with other traditional leaders, urged that such incidents must not be repeated. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability for the greater good of society.
Andreas Taurui also expressed appreciation to the Cartenz Peace Task Force for what he described as measured efforts in several conflict-prone areas to maintain public security and order.
He added that a community-oriented approach and humanitarian initiatives carried out by security personnel are expected to foster a greater sense of safety among residents in affected regions.
On that occasion, he also called on parties with differing views to pursue their aspirations through rightful and lawful means without sacrificing human lives.
“Struggle must be carried out in the right way. No one has the authority to take a human life except God,” he said.
He concluded by inviting all elements of society to work together to safeguard the Land of Papua so that it remains peaceful, prosperous, and under God’s protection.
“Let us preserve Papua as a land of peace and well-being. May God be the one who judges and guides us all,” Andreas Taurui stated.
