Deputy Chief of Papua Police and Regional Military Commander Visit Churches in Jayapura, Ensure Peaceful Christmas Eve Services

Jayapura — The Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua), together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), ensured that Christmas Eve services in Jayapura City in 2025 were carried out safely, orderly, and with reverence.
This was marked by a series of visits by the Deputy Chief of Papua Police, Brigjen Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, accompanied by the Main Officials of Polda Papua and the Commander of the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Region, Mayjen TNI Amrin Ibrahim, to several churches in Jayapura City on Wednesday night (24 December 2025).

The activity began in front of Building A of the Papua Police Headquarters, before the delegation proceeded to the designated churches. The first group was led directly by the Commander of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih and the Deputy Chief of Papua Police, while the second group was led by the Director of Operations (Karo Ops) of Polda Papua.

Several churches visited included Gereja Pengharapan, the Catholic Parish Church, Paulus Church Dok V Atas, and Rehobot Church Dok V. During the visits, the delegation also handed over gift packages to church administrators as a form of care and support from TNI–Polri for the Christmas services in the Land of Papua.

On the same occasion, appreciation was conveyed for the participation of various elements of society in securing Christmas celebrations, including students and youth organizations. A representative of the Islamic Students Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam/HMI) Jayapura Branch stated that they took part in securing Christmas services at 13 churches in Jayapura City and distributed approximately 2,000 flowers as symbols of love and peace on Christmas Eve.

Head of Public Relations of Papua Police, Kombes Pol. Cahyo Sukarnito, emphasized that security for Christmas services across the jurisdiction of Polda Papua and its ranks ran safely, orderly, and comfortably thanks to the synergy of all parties involved.

“The security operations for Christmas Eve services within the Papua Police jurisdiction have run safely and peacefully. This is the result of cooperation and collaboration between TNI–Polri, local governments, related agencies, and the support of community elements such as Muhammadiyah youth, HMI, and mosque youth groups,” said the Head of Public Relations.

He also added that Polda Papua was supported by the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to anticipate potential extreme weather changes during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“We appeal to all members of the public to jointly safeguard the 2025 Christmas celebrations by respecting one another and maintaining public security and order. If there are any security disturbances, the public is encouraged to immediately contact the Police service at 110,” he added.
