Jayapura, October 8, 2025 — Papua religious leader Rev. Dr. Yones Wenda, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Kingmi Papua Synod, has urged the people of Papua to uphold unity and peace following the inauguration of Governor Mathius Fakhiri and Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (Oct. 8).
In his statement, Rev. Wenda emphasized that the democratic process has concluded, and it is now time for Papuans to support the new leadership so that governance and development can proceed as expected. “Let us preserve unity and support the elected governor and deputy governor in leading the administration for a prosperous Papua,” he said.
He also warned the public not to be swayed by groups attempting to disrupt Papua’s stability. Differences, he stressed, should be set aside in order to strengthen brotherhood. “We must stand together and not allow anyone to divide us. Papua is our home, where we raise the next generation,” Rev. Wenda asserted.
Furthermore, he called on religious leaders and church figures to play an active role in guiding their congregations to remain calm and avoid actions that could trigger unrest. He underscored the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding public security and order across Papua.
“Protect unity, protect Jayapura, protect Papua’s peace. This land is our common heritage,” he concluded.
