Jayapura – Amid the political dynamics following the Papua Gubernatorial Re-Election (PSU), a voice of peace emerged from religious leader Ustadz Ismail Asso. He expressed appreciation for the democratic process, which he noted had taken place peacefully and in an orderly manner, while urging the people of Papua to unite in supporting the election’s outcome.
“Alhamdulillah, the re-election in Papua went safely, without unrest. This is something we must be grateful for. My thanks go to everyone who worked hard—especially the KPU, Bawaslu, and the security forces,” said Ustadz Ismail.
For Ustadz Ismail, differences in political choice are natural. However, once the democratic process concludes, he emphasized, it is time for everyone to set aside political symbols and join hands for Papua’s future.
“Whoever is elected is still a son of Papua. We must not be divided simply because of political choices. Now is the time to focus on building this land together,” he stated firmly.
He reminded the newly elected Governor and Deputy Governor that they carry a great responsibility to bring change and prosperity to all Papuans, without discrimination.
“Leadership is not about serving one group alone. Leaders must be present for everyone—building the economy, creating jobs, and improving people’s welfare,” he added.
Ustadz Ismail also expressed deep appreciation to the TNI and Polri, praising their professionalism in maintaining a safe and conducive environment during the re-election.
“Papua has proven that democracy can be practiced peacefully. No clashes, no chaos. This is proof that our people are growing more mature in responding to differences,” he said.
He concluded by calling on all Papuans to preserve the spirit of unity so that development in the next five years can proceed without disruption.
“We must show that Papua is our shared home. It is time to move forward together, alongside our new leaders, toward a brighter future,” Ustadz Ismail affirmed.
