Jakarta – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed allegations that funds from the operational budget of the Papua Provincial Government for the 2020–2022 fiscal years were used to purchase a private jet in cash. The transaction was allegedly carried out using large amounts of cash brought directly from Papua.
“In our investigation, KPK suspects the purchase of the private jet was made in cash, with the money flown in directly from Papua,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the agency’s headquarters in South Jakarta on Monday (June 16, 2025).
According to Budi, the cash used for the purchase was transported in 19 suitcases. KPK believes the suitcases were used to carry the money for the payment of the jet, which is now under scrutiny in a major corruption case.
One suspect has been named in the case: Deus Enumbi, the former Assistant Treasurer to the Head of the Papua Regional Government. He is alleged to have acted in coordination with the late former Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe.
“Based on the information we received, the suspect transported the cash for the private jet purchase using an aircraft, with a total of 19 suitcases,” Budi explained.
Furthermore, the KPK is investigating other possible financial flows linked to the alleged corruption. The commission stated it is also looking into the potential purchase of other luxury assets using misappropriated funds.
“We are continuing to explore whether there were additional asset purchases involved, including other aircraft or valuable property,” said Budi.
He added that this effort is essential for building a strong case and as part of the asset recovery process, considering the significant losses the state may have incurred.
“The estimated state loss in this case is around IDR 1.2 trillion,” he added.
The KPK also confirmed that the private jet allegedly bought with embezzled funds is currently located abroad. As part of the investigation, the commission has summoned a witness, Singaporean national Gibrael Isaak (GI), who was scheduled to testify on Thursday (June 12), but has yet to appear.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the KPK reiterated its commitment to thoroughly uncover the case, which implicates high-ranking officials in the Papua Provincial Government.
