Mimika Regency Government and PTFI Accelerate Clean Water Access for All Residents.

Mimika – Mimika Regency Government (Pemkab) together with PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) are committed to accelerating the provision of clean water access for all residents in the region. This program is one of the priorities in the 100 working days of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Mimika, with the hope of improving the quality of life of the community, especially in fulfilling basic daily needs.

Mimika Regent, Johannes Rettob, said that his party and PTFI have started a trial of the Kuala Kencana Water Treatment Plant (WTP) facility. Currently, clean water distribution is done twice a day, each with a duration of two hours in the morning and evening. This step is the first stage in ensuring the sustainability of clean water supply to residents’ homes.

“We continue to strive so that the distribution of clean water can be distributed to all Mimika communities. This is part of our commitment in ensuring access to basic needs, including clean water, can be enjoyed by all citizens without exception,” said Rettob.

Director and Executive Vice President (EVP) of Sustainability Development PTFI, Claus Wamafma, emphasized that clean water is a fundamental human need that is very important in daily life. Access to clean water not only has an impact on public health, but also supports various essential activities such as cooking, drinking, washing, and bathing.

“We understand how important clean water access is for the community. Therefore, PTFI together with the local government continues to try to ensure that water distribution can run smoothly and reach all residents,” said Claus Wamafma.

To ensure the sustainability and efficiency of clean water distribution, PTFI together with the Public Works and Spatial Planning Service (PUPR) of Mimika Regency continue to monitor the water flow from WTP Kuala Kencana to residents’ houses. This monitoring includes technical and operational aspects to overcome potential obstacles in distribution.

This clean water access acceleration program is not only a short-term solution, but also part of the long-term development plan in Mimika. With the support of infrastructure that continues to be developed, the local government together with PTFI hopes to achieve a clean water distribution that is even, sustainable, and easily accessible to all levels of society.

This step reflects the synergy between the government and the private sector in realizing the welfare of the community, especially in providing appropriate and quality basic services. With this commitment, Mimika residents are expected to enjoy better access to clean water, thus improving their overall standard of living and health.
