Illegal Weapons Circulation in Papua Thwarted, Cartenz Peaceful Operations Task Force Arrests Three Suspects

Jayapura, March 8, 2025 – The Cartenz-2025 Peace Operation Task Force Team together with the Papuan Police successfully thwarted the smuggling of firearms and ammunition that were suspected to be distributed to the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Puncak Jaya. This operation succeeded in uncovering a smuggling network led by Yuni Enumbi (29), which has been the target of intelligence monitoring since the beginning of March 2025.

Based on the results of the investigation, the movement of this weapon was detected from Jayapura to Puncak Jaya. On March 6, 2025, the Task Force team successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying a weapon at KM 76, Keerom Regency. In that operation, besides Yuni Enumbi, two other people were also secured, namely:

• Yudhi Kalalo, the driver of the cargo vehicle.

• Matthew Payokwa, the helper on the journey.

The secured evidence of this operation includes:

  1. Firearms and Ammunition:

• 2 long-barreled firearms in unassembled condition.

• 4 pistols G2 Pindad.

• 632 rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition.

• 250 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

• 1 air rifle with accessories such as laser flashlight, telescope, and silencer.

  1. Supporting Equipment:

• 1 unit of air compressor with “United Waran Biru” which is suspected to be used as a weapon storage place.

• 1 unit of Vivo Y19S cellphone.

• 1 T key, air pump, and a bag containing identity card and ATM.

  1. Cash:

• Rp369,600,000,- which is suspected to be the operational fund for the weapon transaction.

From the results of the initial interrogation, Yuni Enumbi admitted that this weapon was purchased at a price of Rp1.3 billion from outside Papua and will be sent to KKB in Puncak Jaya. Meanwhile, the driver and helper who were also secured claimed that they did not know the contents of the cargo they were carrying.

Head of Public Relations Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, emphasized that his party will continue to conduct further investigations to uncover the network behind this smuggling.

“We will continue to trace the source of this weapon as well as anyone involved in its distribution. This is the first step to dismantle a wider network,” said Kombes Yusuf.

Meanwhile, Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2025, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, appreciated the team’s hard work in thwarting this smuggling attempt.

“This success is proof of our commitment in maintaining the security of Papua. We will continue to narrow the movement space of KKB so that we no longer get illegal weapons supplies,” he said.

The success of this operation is expected to suppress the smuggling of weapons to the KKB and maintain the stability of security in the Papua region.
