Jayapura – Legal Practitioner, Fredricos Richardo Harun Watori, SH appealed to all people in Papua Province to participate actively in the 2024 General Election, by coming to the TPS on 14 February 2024 to elect the President and Vice President, members of the central and provincial legislatures, and districts/cities.
According to Richardo, this is very important because the first is our political choice in the election to elect the president and vice president in determining the direction of state policy for the next five years.
Second, our political choices through elections to elect legislative members both at the central and regional levels will influence the achievement of our aspirations both at the central government scale and at the provincial and district/city levels.
Third, even though the rules which are directly related to the implementation of elections are sanctions for people not to vote, there are none, but there are sanctions for moral loss to the people themselves, for not using their right to vote, so if someone invites you to abstain or not use your political rights, don’t , because not participating in the election is the same as someone who has no responsibility for the public interest (society), is indifferent, and is not useful for many people as well as the nation and state.
Fourth, so that in the future there will be many of our Papuan brothers and sisters who sit in parliament, both at the central and regional levels, so I invite all Papuan children to actively participate in the elections which will be held on February 14 2024.
Fifth, meanwhile, to continue the hoax news about the call for an election boycott of not coming to the polling station to vote, it is included in the ITE Law and the criminal sanctions referred to (election boycott) are based on election law number 7 of 2017 article 531, which states that every person who Deliberately using violence to prevent someone from voting, causing noise or trying to thwart voting, is punishable by a maximum of 4 years and a maximum fine of IDR 48 million.
Don’t stay at home and then say that few Papuans are members of the DPR/DPRD, this is due to our indifference in not coming to the polling stations to vote for our brothers and sisters.
Therefore, let’s come together to come to the polling station to give our political rights in the voting booth to our Papuan brothers and sisters who are running as legislative candidates for the DPR RI, Provincial DPRD and Regency/City DPRD.
Let’s make the 2024 elections a success in the land of Papua which is peaceful and always influenced by God.
