“Fiji Affirms Papua Part of NKRI”

Indonesian Ambassador Tantowi Yahya successfully led the country’s delegation to Fiji, on Wednesday (3/29/2023). During the visit, the goal was none other than to meet Fiji PM Sitiveni Rabuka.

The Golkar Party spokesman said his meeting with Sitiveni discussed many national and international issues. For example, discussing the Papua issue.

“His affirmation of the Fiji Government’s support and commitment to the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. Fiji recognizes Papua as part of the Republic of Indonesia,” Tantowi said in his press statement.

The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Division of the SOKSI DEPINAS revealed that Sitiveni had also met Papuan separatist figure Benny Wenda. Even so, Fiji ensures that it supports Indonesia’s integrity.

“He conveyed this affirmation following his unofficial meeting with Benny Wenda, leader of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) in Fiji recently which was widely perceived as a change in Fiji’s attitude towards Indonesia,” said Tantowi.

Not only that, Tantowi emphasized, RI-Fiji is also committed to maintaining the mutual trust that has been created. Not only about Papua, but also opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

“As well as the planned visit of the Fijian head of government to Indonesia in the near future. New cooperation opportunities in various fields, including in the creative economy, complement a number of collaborations that have taken place so far,” concluded Tantowi.
