YAHUKIMO, MOUNTAINOUS PAPUA – The Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, together with Yahukimo Police, is investigating a serious assault involving the stabbing of a civilian identified by the initial H (35) on Jalan Sosial Kali Bonto, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Mountainous Papua Province, on Tuesday (October 27, 2026), at approximately 6:00 p.m. WIT.
The incident reportedly began when the victim visited a kiosk to transfer money. After completing the transaction and attempting to stand up, the victim was allegedly attacked from behind by an unidentified person using a sharp object, which struck the victim in the right side of the back.
The victim reportedly shouted for help and ran toward home. A witness near the victim’s residence subsequently found the victim injured and took the victim to Dekai Regional General Hospital for medical treatment. The victim was conscious when transported to the hospital.
Deputy Head of Public Relations for the Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, AKBP Andria, S.I.K., told the media on Wednesday (October 28) that, after receiving information about the incident, the Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force and Yahukimo Police promptly proceeded to the crime scene, conducted a crime scene examination, and gathered witness statements and evidence to support the investigation.
“On October 27, 2026, we received a public report concerning the stabbing incident and coordinated with Yahukimo Police. Our personnel subsequently responded to the scene and collected statements and evidence to help identify the perpetrator and establish the motive behind the attack,” the Deputy Head of Public Relations explained.
The case has been registered under Police Report Number LP/B/58/X/2026/SPKT/Polres Yahukimo/Polda Papua, dated October 27, 2026. Based on preliminary information, the suspected perpetrator was believed to be acting alone and fled toward the Jalur I residential area in Dekai District after the stabbing. Investigators are continuing to establish the suspect’s identity and the motive behind the incident.
The Deputy Head of Public Relations for the Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, AKBP Andria, S.I.K., added that investigators are also examining suspected links between the incident and the activities of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) associated with Kodap XVI Yahukimo, led by Kopi Tua Heluka. However, this possibility remains under investigation and must be substantiated through the collection and examination of facts and evidence to establish who was responsible.
“We are still investigating the possibility of involvement by a particular group in this incident. Any allegation must be substantiated by facts and evidence obtained during the investigation. We therefore urge the public not to jump to conclusions and to await the results of the police investigation,” the Deputy Head of Public Relations added.
Furthermore, AKBP Andria, S.I.K., urged residents to remain calm, avoid being provoked by unverified information, and assist the investigation by providing relevant information to the police.
“We welcome the public’s support in providing information that may help solve this case. We will maintain the confidentiality of all information provided. Law enforcement proceedings will be conducted professionally, with public safety remaining a priority,” he stated.
Head of the Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the investigation must be comprehensive and based on facts and legally admissible evidence to establish the perpetrator’s identity, the motive behind the attack, and any possible involvement of other parties.
“Any suspected involvement by particular individuals or groups must be established through the investigative process. We have instructed investigators to examine this case professionally so that all the facts can be uncovered and those responsible can be held accountable in accordance with applicable law,” the Head of Operations stressed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, Police Commissioner Ardiansyah Daulay, S.I.K., M.H., called on the community to work together to maintain security and public order in Yahukimo Regency and to allow law enforcement authorities to handle the case.
“If you have any information related to this incident, please report it to the police so that it can be followed up in accordance with established procedures,” the Deputy Head of Operations said.
The Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force and Yahukimo Police continue to investigate the case to identify the perpetrator and establish the motive behind the stabbing. Public cooperation is expected to support the investigation while helping maintain a safe and stable security situation in Yahukimo Regency.
