Papuan Youth Leader Urges Residents to Maintain Peace and Reject Hoaxes Following Security Disturbance in Wamena

JAYAPURA, PAPUA – Coordinator of the Youth Voice for Papua Concern, Isak Imbiri, S.KM., has urged the public to maintain peace, reject hoaxes, and not be easily provoked by unverified information following a security disturbance in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency.

Isak made the statement in response to the security incident in Wamena, which resulted in three civilian casualties. He expressed his condolences to the victims and their families and strongly condemned acts by groups that disrupt security and cause harm to the community.

“I extend my deepest condolences for the incident that occurred in Wamena. I strongly condemn groups that disrupt security in Papua and cause civilians to become victims,” Isak said in a statement delivered in Abepura District, Jayapura, on Saturday (September 12, 2026).

According to Isak, maintaining security and public order in Papua is a shared responsibility. Therefore, the community is encouraged to support security personnel in creating a safe and conducive environment.

As a member of Papua’s younger generation, Isak also expressed his support for the efforts of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 in enforcing the law against armed criminal groups in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

“As young people of Papua, we always support the Peace Cartenz Task Force in its efforts to enforce the law against armed criminal groups,” he said.

Isak also urged the public not to provide room for the spread of provocative information that could further aggravate the security situation. He called on residents to verify the accuracy and credibility of information before believing or sharing it.

“We urge the entire community to work together with security personnel to maintain a safe public security and order situation. Do not be easily provoked by issues that cannot be accounted for, as they can make the situation unstable,” he said.

Isak expressed hope that the people of Papua would remain calm and prioritize unity and togetherness in maintaining security in their respective communities. According to him, a safe and conducive situation is an important foundation for people to carry out their daily activities without fear.

“Let us remain calm and work together to maintain security and peace in Papua. May God protect us all,” Isak said.
