Jakarta – Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has strongly condemned the shooting that killed three civil servants of the Jayawijaya Regency Government in Papua Pegunungan. The three employees were killed while carrying out official duties in Muliama District.
The shooting, allegedly carried out by an armed criminal group, has raised serious concern because the victims were civilians carrying out government duties. Commission III emphasized that armed violence against civilians and public servants cannot be justified under any circumstances.
Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Habiburokhman described the attack on civilians and public servants as a heinous act that must not be tolerated.
“This armed attack against civilians and public servants is a barbaric crime that must not be tolerated in any way,” Habiburokhman told detikcom on Saturday (September 12, 2026).
- House Urges Police and Military to Take Firm Action
Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives expressed its support for security authorities in handling the shooting case. The Indonesian National Police and Indonesian Military were urged to act swiftly and in a measured manner while continuing to adhere to applicable laws.
According to Habiburokhman, the perpetrators of the shooting must be identified, located, and brought to justice through legal procedures. The investigation is needed not only to identify those directly involved in the attack but also to uncover the network behind the incident.
“Law enforcement authorities must immediately conduct a thorough investigation, pursue the perpetrators to the root of the problem, and bring them before the courts to be held accountable for their actions,” Habiburokhman said.
The call came amid concerns over the safety of civilians and government employees carrying out their duties in areas vulnerable to armed disturbances. Law enforcement is considered essential to ensure that acts of violence against civilians are not allowed to occur without consequences.
- Security for Civilians and Civil Servants Must Be Strengthened
In addition to calling for the perpetrators to be arrested, Commission III also highlighted the need to strengthen security in areas considered vulnerable to armed disturbances. Security guarantees are important to ensure that residents can carry out their daily activities and government employees can continue providing public services.
Habiburokhman stressed that the state must not allow armed violence to disrupt law enforcement and development programs in the region.
“We urge security authorities to strengthen security guarantees in vulnerable areas so that government officials and members of the public can carry out their activities and development programs without fear,” he said.
Strengthened security is also essential for the continuity of various government programs. Activities such as administrative services, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and agricultural programs require government employees to work directly in the field.
- Ahmad Sahroni Also Condemns Armed Criminal Group Attack
Condemnation of the shooting of the three civil servants was also expressed by Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni. He urged the police to immediately take action to pursue and arrest those responsible.
Sahroni described the attack as an act of terror that could not be justified, particularly because the victims were civilians carrying out official duties.
“This is certainly a barbaric act, and I strongly condemn this act of terror. We at Commission III urge the police to move quickly to arrest the perpetrators and impose the appropriate maximum punishment in accordance with the law,” Sahroni said.
According to Sahroni, handling the case should not stop at identifying and arresting those who carried out the attack in the field. Authorities must also investigate the networks and resources that enabled the armed group to carry out the attack.
- House Calls for Investigation into the Source of the Weapons
One of the issues highlighted by Ahmad Sahroni was the origin of the weapons used in the shooting. He urged authorities not to stop at identifying the perpetrators but also to investigate how the armed group obtained the weapons.
“I ask the police, in addition to arresting the perpetrators, to uncover where they obtained the weapons and who supplied them. They not only threaten the sovereignty of the state but also endanger innocent members of the public,” Sahroni stressed.
Investigating the source of the weapons is considered important to break the supply chain that enables acts of violence. If the supplier network can be uncovered, authorities are expected to prevent armed groups from obtaining equipment that could be used to carry out further attacks.
- Shooting Occurred While Group Was Traveling to Muliama
The incident that claimed the lives of the three civil servants occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at approximately 3:53 p.m. local time. At the time, a group of employees from the Jayawijaya Regency Agriculture Office was traveling to Muliama District.
The group consisted of 11 people. They had departed from Wamena to inspect the implementation of a land-clearing and rice-field development program in the area.
What began as an official government assignment turned into a deadly incident after the group came under armed attack. Gunfire was directed at the group while they were in the Muliama District area.
- Three Jayawijaya Agriculture Office Employees Killed
The attack resulted in three employees of the Jayawijaya Regency Agriculture Office being shot and killed. The three victims were identified by the initials WB, 24; AR, 49; and AAM, 35.
All three were members of the group carrying out the official assignment. Their deaths have brought grief to their families, colleagues, and the Jayawijaya Regency Government.
The case has also drawn the attention of the central government because the victims were civil servants who lost their lives while performing their official duties. The incident once again highlights the security challenges faced by government employees working in areas vulnerable to armed disturbances.

Police officers conducted a crime scene investigation on Thursday, September 10, 2026, one day after the shooting. The examination was carried out to collect evidence and other information that could assist the investigation.
During the initial investigation, authorities obtained information regarding the characteristics of the group allegedly involved in the shooting. The number of perpetrators is estimated to be around eight people.
The information has become one of the bases for authorities to conduct a search and further investigation. Police are still working to establish the identities of the perpetrators and determine the group behind the attack on the Jayawijaya Agriculture Office employees.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the perpetrators are allegedly members of an armed criminal group operating in the Nduga area. The allegation remains subject to further investigation as authorities work to establish the identity of those responsible.
