Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government encourages the wider involvement of private education institutions in improving the quality of human resources (SDM) in Papua. Collaboration between the government and private schools is considered to be one of the keys to expand access as well as improve the quality of education for the young generation of Papua.
Governor of Papua Mathius D. Fakhiri said the government cannot work alone in building the education sector. The existence of private schools with various advantages is considered to be a strategic partner of the government in preparing a tough, characterful and competitive Papuan generation.
“Education is a shared responsibility. The government cannot only rely on public schools in improving the quality of Papuan human resources,” said Mathius in Jayapura, Tuesday.
This was conveyed after he made a working visit to Papua Harapan School (SPH) and Papua Hope Language Institute in Hinekombe Village, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, on Sunday (8/30). In the visit, the Governor saw directly the education process as well as discussed the strengthening of the role of educational institutions in the development of Papuan human resources.
According to Mathius, private schools in Papua have had a long contribution in the world of education and regional development. In fact, a number of private educational institutions have been established and provided educational services to the community long before the current government carried out its leadership.
“Private schools in Papua have had many advantages and have participated in building this area long before we led,” he said.
He assessed that the experience and various innovations developed by private educational institutions can be an additional force in building the education system in Papua. Good collaboration is expected to be able to create a learning environment that is not only oriented towards academic ability, but also shapes the character and independence of learners.
Mathius also appreciates the existence of private schools that have given birth to Papuan children with various abilities and achievements. According to him, this shows that investment in quality education can have a long-term impact on the future of the region.
“Private schools in Papua have produced great and extraordinary children. The existence of the school shows that the collaboration between the government and the private sector is important to expand access as well as improve the quality of education in Papua,” he said.
The Governor added, the development of superior human resources must be carried out sustainably by involving various stakeholders. Local governments, educational institutions, the business world, the community and families need to have the same vision in preparing the young generation of Papua to face challenges in the future.
Through the strengthening of the collaboration, the Papua Provincial Government hopes that more children in Bumi Cenderawasih will have the opportunity to get a quality education. The young generation who have knowledge, character and skills is expected to be the main force in encouraging sustainable development of Papua.
