Wamena – The Jayawijaya Regency Government in Indonesia’s Highland Papua Province is promoting cultural preservation through the 2026 Nusantara Cultural Carnival, which is part of the 34th Baliem Valley Cultural Festival (FBLB).
Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murib said the cultural carnival provides an opportunity for the community to preserve and showcase the region’s cultural diversity, including traditional clothing, dances, and traditional arts passed down through generations.
“This event is not merely entertainment, but also part of our efforts to preserve the culture inherited from our ancestors and pass it on to future generations,” Murib said.
The carnival involves various elements of society, including early childhood education and kindergarten students, schools, universities, community organizations, ethnic associations, regional government agencies, and the general public.
Murib emphasized that the involvement of young people in cultural activities is important to ensure that local traditions remain recognized and preserved amid rapid social and technological changes.
In addition to promoting cultural preservation, the 2026 Nusantara Cultural Carnival is expected to contribute to the local economy by providing opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to promote local products and creative works.
The Jayawijaya government also called on residents and participants to maintain security, order, and cleanliness throughout the FBLB activities. The government hopes the event will further strengthen togetherness and showcase the welcoming and peaceful character of the Jayawijaya community.
