TERNATE – Introducing agriculture and caring for the environment from an early age is one of the efforts made by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga through the development of Tubo Gam Ma Cahaya Agrotourism in Ternate City, North Maluku. The area that was developed through the Babullah Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) is now not only part of the community empowerment program, but also used as a learning space for children.
Through educational activities in the agrotourism area, children can get to know directly various types of plants, agricultural products, and livestock activities. This out-of-class learning approach is expected to be able to provide new experiences as well as grow children’s interest in the world of agriculture and the importance of maintaining the environment.
One of these activities was realized through an outing class visit to Khalifah Kindergarten on Wednesday (21/10). This activity was attended by 36 students accompanied by five teachers. During the visit, the students get the opportunity to learn and interact directly with the agricultural and livestock environment available in the Tubo Agrotourism area.
Area Manager of Communication, Relations, and CSR of Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Papua Maluku, Ispiani Abbas, said that Agrotourism Tubo Gam Ma Cahaya was developed as a community empowerment program that has wider benefits, not only in supporting food security and improving the economy of residents, but also as a means of public education.
According to Ispiani, the utilization of the area for educational activities is part of the company’s commitment in providing sustainable benefits to the community, including supporting the children’s learning process through direct experience.
He also expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm of the students and teachers of Khalifah Kindergarten who participated in educational activities in the agrotourism area through the support of AFT Babullah.
In this activity, the students are guided to get to know various types of plants, agricultural products, and livestock activities. Through experience-based learning methods or experiential learning, children not only receive material theoretically, but also get the opportunity to see and interact directly with the surrounding environment.
This method makes the learning process more interesting and easy to understand because children can connect the knowledge gained with real conditions in the field.
Ispiani added, the existence of Tubo Gam Ma Cahaya Agrotourism is expected to continue to contribute to the strengthening of local community capacity as well as creating an educational space that is open to various circles.
The development of this region is also directed to introduce the concept of sustainable agriculture and build concern for the environment. Thus, the benefits of agrotourism are not only felt through the economic sector and food security, but also through increasing public knowledge.
Through the program, Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Papua Maluku together with AFT Babullah continues to encourage the utilization of local potential as a means of empowerment and education. The presence of Agrotourism Tubo is expected to be a useful learning space as well as raising the awareness of the young generation to know, appreciate, and take care of the environment from an early age.
