Ministry of Health to Support Hospital Construction and Rehabilitation of Community Health Centers in Central Papua

Jayapura – The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia will assist the Central Papua Provincial Government in constructing a hospital and rehabilitating 54 community health centers (puskesmas) in the region by 2027.
This confirmation was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of Central Papua, Deinas Geley, S.Sos, M.Si, following a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Health, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus, at the Ministry of Health’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday (October 28, 2026).

“I was tasked by the Governor to represent him at the Ministry of Health. We requested assistance for the construction of a major hospital in Central Papua Province, and the request has been approved,” said Deinas Geley on Thursday (October 29, 2026).

He noted that the Ministry of Health indicated that construction of the hospital is set to begin in 2027. The planned facility will be modeled after the Ministry of Health’s hospital located in Abepura, Jayapura City, Papua Province.

The Central Papua Provincial Government has been asked to prepare the necessary land; in response, they have already secured a 20-hectare site in Nabire Regency for the hospital’s construction.

“The largest hospital in Central Papua will be built next year. Furthermore, large hospitals will also be constructed in the regencies of Deiyai, Dogiyai, Intan Jaya, Puncak, and Puncak Jaya. The Ministry will handle the construction for all of these,” he stated.

Additionally, Deputy Governor Geley mentioned that they had requested support for the rehabilitation of 54 community health centers across Central Papua Province—a request that the Ministry of Health has also approved.
