JAYAPURA– Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen said the distribution of government food reserve assistance in the form of rice has begun in several regencies and municipalities across Papua. The assistance is intended for residents registered as beneficiaries to help meet their food needs throughout 2026.
“On Wednesday (Oct. 21), we handed over government rice reserve assistance to nine regencies and municipalities for distribution to beneficiary communities,” he said in Jayapura on Friday (Oct. 23).
Aryoko explained that the assistance handover is part of the regional government’s efforts to support the fulfillment of people’s food needs. Under this distribution phase, each regency and municipality receives a rice allocation in accordance with the established provisions.
“Technically, the responsible agencies have begun distributing the assistance to each regency and municipality, with each area receiving two tons of rice and Jayapura Municipality receiving one ton,” he said.
He added that the delivery process was underway using both land and sea transportation to reach the areas targeted for distribution.
Aryoko further explained that the rice assistance was already available at Bulog warehouses in their respective regions. The subsequent distribution to residents would be coordinated among the Papua Provincial Government, relevant technical agencies, and Bulog to ensure the process proceeded as planned.
“The food assistance is already available at Bulog warehouses in each respective region, so the subsequent distribution process is being carried out through coordination between the provincial government, relevant agencies, and Bulog,” he added.
He emphasized that the government food reserve assistance was intended for residents registered as eligible beneficiaries in accordance with applicable regulations. Therefore, regency and municipal governments, together with relevant technical agencies, were expected to ensure that the distribution process was orderly and properly targeted.
“Therefore, regency and municipal governments, together with technical agencies, are expected to ensure that the distribution process runs smoothly so that eligible residents can receive the assistance in accordance with its intended purpose,” he said.
Meanwhile, Keerom Deputy Regent Daud expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Papua Provincial Government for providing an additional two tons of rice as food reserve assistance for the regency.
“We will distribute the additional rice assistance received from the Papua Provincial Government to registered residents so that it can help meet their food needs, particularly those living in remote areas,” he said.
The regional government hopes the assistance will help meet residents’ basic food needs, particularly in remote areas, while ensuring that the aid reaches eligible beneficiaries in accordance with the official recipient data.
