JAYAPURA, PAPUA – The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 successfully secured a man listed on the People Wanted List (DPO), identified by the initials YYS, also known as OS or K, 33, in the Argapura area, Jayapura City, on Tuesday (September 29, 2026).
YYS was secured at approximately 3:15 p.m. local time in the Argapura area, South Jayapura District. Based on the results of the investigation, he is suspected of being involved as an intermediary in an arms and ammunition procurement network allegedly linked to SP.
The securing of YYS was the result of an ongoing investigation into an arms and ammunition network in the Jayapura area that has been handled since March 2026. The case is based on Police Report Number LP/A/1/III/2026/SPKT.DITKRIMUM/POLDA PAPUA dated March 13, 2026, as well as People Wanted List (DPO) Number DPO/19/IV/2026/RES.1.17./Ditreskrimum dated April 15, 2026.
Head Of Public Relation of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., explained during an interview on Wednesday (September 30) that YYS was listed on the People Wanted List in connection with the ongoing investigation into the arms and ammunition network in the Jayapura area.
“YYS is a recidivist who previously served a seven-year sentence in a narcotics case and completed his sentence at the beginning of 2026,” the Head Of Public Relation explained.
He added that YYS was identified through the development of the investigation involving 13 individuals who had previously been secured during the period from March until now. The development of the case subsequently led investigators to YYS as part of efforts to uncover the network comprehensively.
The 13 individuals who had previously been named suspects are as follows:
- SP – alleged buyer of firearms and ammunition;
- OB – alleged fund provider/firearms and ammunition buyer;
- YP – alleged fund provider;
- MKM – alleged firearms intermediary;
- DK – alleged firearms and ammunition intermediary;
- KO – alleged firearms and ammunition intermediary;
- SM – alleged firearms and ammunition intermediary;
- HM – alleged seller of ammunition and magazines;
- AKW – alleged ammunition supplier;
- NH – alleged fund provider;
- HLT – alleged ammunition supplier to EKW;
- YK – alleged firearms and ammunition intermediary; and
- AG – alleged firearms and ammunition intermediary.
“YYS is suspected of being involved as an intermediary in firearms and ammunition transactions. He has now been secured and taken to the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Papua Regional Police,” the Head Of Public Relation added.
As part of the investigation into the case, the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 has recorded the seizure of several items of evidence, including:
- 298 rounds of ammunition;
- four long SS1 magazines;
- one short SS1 magazine;
- one homemade firearm; and
- six firearm barrels believed to be from World War II, which were found in a rusted condition.
Regarding YYS, also known as OS or K, the Head Of Public Relation explained that investigators had applied Article 306 in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP), relating to the alleged unauthorized possession or control of firearms, ammunition, explosives, or other dangerous materials in connection with an incident on March 12, 2026, at the intersection of the Pasar Lama Sentani traffic light, Jayapura Regency. The offense carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
“Nevertheless, investigators are still conducting further examination of the case. The possibility of involvement by other parties, as well as the connection between the parties and the evidence, will continue to be investigated based on the findings obtained during the investigation,” he said.
YYS is currently being held at the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Papua Regional Police for further examination. Investigators continue to develop the case to establish the full sequence of events and identify other parties suspected of having connections to the case based on facts and evidence.
“We urge the public to remain confident in and trust the Police. Regarding incidents occurring in Papua, particularly those involving armed criminal groups, we ask the public to entrust the law enforcement process to the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz, which will carry out law enforcement in an open and transparent manner,” the Head Of Public Relation concluded.
Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said the securing of YYS was part of the ongoing law enforcement process against the network under investigation.
“The securing of the individual was the result of a gradual investigation and case development process. Investigators will subsequently examine his role and involvement based on the facts and evidence obtained,” said the Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026.
He emphasized that both the individual’s previous case and the current case are being handled separately in accordance with applicable law and the facts established by investigators.
“Each case has its own legal process. For the case currently being handled, investigators will work based on statements, facts, and evidence obtained during the investigation process,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., said the investigation into the arms and ammunition network would continue to uncover the entire chain of events and other parties suspected of being involved.
“Following the securing of YYS, investigators will conduct further examination to determine his role as part of the development of the network currently under investigation. We ensure that the process will be carried out professionally and in accordance with applicable law,” said the Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 emphasized that law enforcement in the arms and ammunition network case would be conducted in a measured and professional manner, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, while continuing to uphold the presumption of innocence.
