WAMENA, PAPUA PEGUNUNGAN – The Jayawijaya Regency Government, Papua Pegunungan, distributed humanitarian assistance to the people of Kuyawage District, Lanny Jaya Regency, who were affected by drought and hail causing agricultural land to experience crop failure.
The aid was sent directly by Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murib through five Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) flights to Kuyawage District. The distribution of aid is carried out as a form of concern for people who have difficulty meeting food needs due to weather conditions that have an impact on agricultural products.
Atenius said that the food aid is expected to help meet the basic needs of the community during the face of the impact of the disaster.
“We send basic aid in the form of rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, and wearable clothes to help people who experienced drought and hail so that orchards and other agricultural land failed to harvest,” he said in a written statement in Wamena, Thursday.
The aid sent includes rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, and suitable clothes. Delivery using MAF aircraft is carried out due to geographical conditions and access to the Kuyawage region requires air transportation support.
According to Atenius, the support is part of Jayawijaya’s concern for the community in the area that has a historical relationship as part of the Papua Mountainous region.
“We are present as the parent district that gave birth to seven districts and also feel the disaster felt by the extended family in Kuyawage,” he said.
He said the assistance did not stop at the delivery of food. The Jayawijaya Regency Government will also coordinate with other regional governments that have administrative areas or areas adjacent to the Kuyawage District.
“We will continue to provide assistance and in the future will continue to coordinate with the governments of Lanny Jaya, Nduga, and Puncak who have district areas here or adjacent to Kuyawage,” he said.
The coordination across regional governments is considered important to ensure that the handling of community needs can be carried out together, especially as long as the weather conditions still have an impact on agricultural activities and the availability of food for residents.
Atenius hopes that the aid that has been sent through five MAF flights can provide direct benefits for the affected communities.
“The basic aid that we have delivered using these five MAF aircraft flights is expected to help and provide benefits for the residents,” he said.
The distribution of aid is also a form of humanitarian support between regions in facing the impact of drought and hail that affects people’s lives, especially those who depend on their daily needs from agricultural products.
