MIMIKA – The Mimika Police have stepped up security patrols to prevent public order disturbances, particularly potential incidents of street violence at night.
The effort was carried out through an Integrated Enhanced Routine Activity Patrol, known as KRYD, conducted by the Mimika Police on Saturday night (September 19, 2026). The operation was led by Deputy Chief of Mimika Police, Commissioner J. Limbong, and involved personnel from several police units.
The patrol began with a coordination briefing at approximately 9:09 p.m. local time at the Mimika Police Service Office on Jalan Cenderawasih. Personnel then proceeded to patrol several areas considered to require increased police presence, while also monitoring for potential street crimes, possession of sharp weapons, and illicit drug distribution.
Head of the Internal Supervision Section of the Mimika Police, AKP Dorteus Jemalut, instructed personnel to carry out their duties firmly and proportionately while maintaining a humane approach.
“The KRYD patrol is aimed at reducing the potential for street crimes, including checks for sharp weapons and efforts to prevent illicit drug distribution. We ask all personnel to act in accordance with established procedures and prioritize public safety,” said AKP Dorteus.
During the patrol, officers encountered a brawl involving groups of young people on Jalan WR Supratman at around 9:45 p.m. local time.
Police immediately responded to the location, dispersing the crowd and securing the area to prevent the confrontation from spreading into nearby residential areas.
Five young people were detained for further questioning. They were identified by their initials as TJT, 19; JCS, 21; HW, 20; and two minors, SB, 16, and AM, 16.
Deputy Chief of Mimika Police Commissioner J. Limbong expressed concern over the involvement of minors in public acts of violence and emphasized the importance of families and communities in monitoring the activities of children and teenagers.
After the situation was brought under control, the patrol continued by checking several locations along Jalan WR Supratman.
At approximately 11:38 p.m. local time, officers encountered another group of young people gathered along the roadside while consuming alcoholic beverages. The group was subsequently dispersed as part of efforts to maintain public order and prevent further disturbances.
The Mimika Police emphasized that KRYD patrols will continue to be conducted periodically as a preventive measure against security and public order disturbances, while ensuring that residents can carry out their activities safely, particularly during nighttime and the early hours of the morning.
