Timika – Mr. Marianus Maknaipeku, Deputy Chairman I of the Kamoro Tribal Customary Council (Lemasko) of Mimika Regency, has commended the performance of the Operation Damai Cartenz Police Task Force in maintaining security and providing protection to the people of Papua. This appreciation follows the task force’s response and the successful evacuation of residents held hostage by the group known as TPNPB-OPM—or the Armed Criminal Group (KKB)—in Jila District, Mimika Regency.
Marianus conveyed these remarks in Mimika on Sunday (September 20, 2026). According to him, the Damai Cartenz Task Force’s efforts to maintain security and respond to situations threatening public safety play a crucial role in fostering a safe and secure environment.
“As Deputy Chairman I of Lemasko, I appreciate the work of the Damai Cartenz Task Force on behalf of the Papuan people, particularly in maintaining security so that residents can go about their daily activities safely and comfortably,” said Marianus.
Marianus also commended the security forces’ response during the evacuation of residents rescued from captivity in Jila District, Mimika Regency. He emphasized that public safety is a shared responsibility and that every citizen has the right to protection and a decent life with their family.
Furthermore, Marianus expressed hope that TNI (military) and Polri (police) security forces would continue to enforce the law against parties involved in criminal acts and security disturbances that harm the community.
“We hope that TNI and Polri security forces will continue their law enforcement efforts and apprehend perpetrators in accordance with applicable laws, ensuring that the public no longer falls victim to such acts,” he stated.
Marianus also condemned all forms of violence against civilians. He urged armed groups currently holding hostages to immediately release innocent civilians and return them to their families. “There must be no violence against civilians. We condemn all forms of violence and call upon the groups currently holding civilians hostage to immediately return them to their families. Innocent people must be given the opportunity to live decent lives, reunite with their families, access food, and live in safety,” he asserted.
As a traditional leader, Marianus also urged the people of Papua—particularly in Mimika Regency—to maintain peace and avoid conflict. He emphasized that mutual respect and peaceful coexistence are vital to creating a safe Papua.
“Let us live together in peace, free from conflict. We must respect and look out for one another, living side-by-side as fellow Papuans. Through unity and peace, we can build a safe Papua where everyone can go about their daily lives with peace of mind,” he urged.
Marianus hopes that the synergy between security forces, traditional leaders, community figures, and all segments of society will continue to be strengthened. He believes that maintaining security is not solely the responsibility of the authorities; it also requires public support to foster a conducive environment and ensure the smooth functioning of community life.
