Jayapura – Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has called for the continued maintenance of security stability in the Papua region to ensure that infrastructure development proceeds safely and delivers benefits to the community.
According to AHY, the security situation is a matter of government concern following a series of armed violence incidents targeting civilians in the Highland Papua region.
“Guaranteed security and a sense of safety are fundamental needs for the community and serve as crucial factors in supporting development,” he said in Jayapura on Saturday.
He explained that synergy and collaboration among all ministries and agencies—including the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), the National Police (Polri), and local governments—are essential to ensuring security.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Intan Jaya, Central Papua, Aner Maisini, stated that the local government is committed to supporting infrastructure development in the area, despite ongoing security challenges.
He explained that the Intan Jaya Regency Government, together with the TNI, Polri, community leaders, traditional leaders, and religious figures, has committed to overseeing the implementation of development projects, including the Presidential Instruction program for regional roads.
“The local government is also preparing a special team to oversee development in the field while fostering communication with various segments of society,” he said.
He added that he hopes the support of the central government, security forces, and all elements of society will strengthen a conducive environment, allowing infrastructure development in Papua to continue sustainably.
