Wamena – The body of AS (41), a victim of a shooting and vehicle burning incident in the Habema area of Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua Province, was returned from Wamena to his hometown in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, on Friday (September 18, 2026).
Meanwhile, the Police Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, together with the Jayawijaya Police, continues its investigation and search for individuals suspected of being involved in the incident.
Head Of Public Relation of the Police Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., told the media on Friday (September 18) that the victim’s body and family members departed Wamena at around 10:00 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WIT) for Sentani.
At around 12:00 p.m. WIT, the body was flown to Makassar before being transported to Tana Toraja, the victim’s hometown.
“Previously, AS’s wife was picked up by TNI personnel using a helicopter from her residence in Lugah and taken to Wamena. After meeting with the family, the process of returning the body continued to Sentani and then to Makassar,” Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo said.
Meanwhile, the Police Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, together with the TNI Task Force, continues its search for and pursuit of individuals suspected of being involved in the shooting. The efforts were carried out following an on-site crime scene investigation conducted by joint personnel.
“We will not remain idle and will continue tirelessly pursuing and searching for the perpetrators who carried out this heinous act,” Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo said.
The Head Of Public Relation added that authorities are currently conducting an in-depth investigation to establish the identities and whereabouts of the individuals suspected of being involved.
He emphasized that the case is being handled through law enforcement procedures, meaning the involvement of each suspect must first be established before an arrest is made and the case proceeds through the legal process.
“We must make absolutely sure who the suspects are and where they are located so that they can be arrested and subsequently brought through the legal process,” the Head Of Public Relation said.
Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo also emphasized that authorities continue to prioritize law enforcement procedures to prevent actions that could have an impact on civilians.
If individuals suspected of being involved resist during an arrest operation, authorities will take action in accordance with applicable regulations.
“We cannot take measures outside the law enforcement process because civilians would ultimately bear the consequences and suffer the losses,” he said.
Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said that the Police Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, together with the Jayawijaya Police, had taken a number of measures at the scene.

He also assured that the process of returning the body was being carried out properly and safely until it could be handed over to the victim’s family in his hometown.
“The police are ensuring that the process of returning the body is carried out properly and safely. We hope that the entire journey, until the body arrives and is handed over to the family, will proceed smoothly,” he said.
Furthermore, the Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026 appealed to the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by unverified information regarding the incident.
“We urge the people of Jayawijaya to remain vigilant, particularly when traveling to areas far from the city center,” he said.
