Jayapura – Efforts to build tax awareness from an early age continue to be carried out by the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes of the Ministry of Finance of Papua, West Papua and Maluku (Kanwil DJP Papabrama) by targeting students and college students.
Through the tax awareness inclusion program, Kanwil DJP Papabrama introduces the role and benefits of taxes to students in 23 educational institutions spread across Papua and Maluku work areas. The education is packaged interactively through games and Reading Tax activities, so that taxation materials can be accepted more easily by the younger generation.
The Daily Executive of the Head of the DJP Office of the Ministry of Finance Papabrama, Agustinus Widiantoro, said that the introduction of taxes to the younger generation is an important investment to build a society that understands their rights and obligations as citizens.
“This activity is part of an effort to expand the inclusion of tax awareness among students. We want them to understand from an early age that taxes have an important role in the life of the nation and the state,” said Agustinus in Jayapura.
The activities that were carried out simultaneously involved the collaboration between Kanwil DJP Papabrama with schools, universities, Tax Service Offices (KPP), and Taxation Service, Counseling and Consultation Offices (KP2KP) in the Papua and Maluku regions.
According to Agustinus, the educational approach carried out not only focuses on the introduction of the concept of taxation, but also invites participants to understand the relationship between taxes and various community needs. Thus, the younger generation is expected to see taxes not just as an obligation, but as one of the sources of development financing.
“Tax is a cost for the source of state management. Without taxes, we will have difficulty in enlightening the nation’s life, maintaining national sovereignty, providing health services, and carrying out development,” he said.
In addition to providing education, Kanwil DJP Papabrama also gave *Edu Tax Award to a number of parties that are considered active in supporting the tax awareness inclusion program. The award is given to educators, schools, and strategic partners who contribute to expanding the understanding of taxation in the education environment.
Head of Counseling, Service and Public Relations (P2Humas) Kanwil DJP Papabrama, Supriyanto, assessed that the involvement of educational institutions has an important role in shaping the understanding of taxation from school to college.
“Taxation education needs to be done sustainably and adjusted to the character of the younger generation. Through collaboration with the world of education, we hope that tax awareness can grow into a part of the culture and character of the community,” said Supriyanto.
Kanwil DJP Papabrama hopes that the activity can give birth to a young generation who have tax literacy as well as understand the contribution of taxes to development. This awareness is expected to continue to grow until they enter the world of work and become part of a community that complies with tax obligations.
