MIMIKA, Central Papua – Children at the Laskar Pelangi Shelter in Mimika Baru District, Mimika Regency, received more than just material aid when personnel from Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 visited on Friday (August 28, 2026). After the assistance was handed over to the shelter’s administrators, several personnel sat down and played alongside the children.
The visit began with the handover of aid to support the needs of the children residing at the shelter. Afterward, the atmosphere became more relaxed as personnel from the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Support Task Force—including a psychology team and a doctor—began to mingle with the children.
There were no lengthy ceremonial proceedings. Personnel sat with the children, joined in games, chatted, and accompanied them in various simple activities.
The psychology team then invited the children to participate in play therapy. The games were simple, involving both the children and the personnel in the same activities. Some children followed the game instructions, while others actively interacted and played with the personnel.
Communication during the event was direct and informal. The children participated in the games according to their own abilities and comfort levels, while the personnel actively joined in the activities.
For the administrators of the Laskar Pelangi Shelter, the visit provided additional support for the children under their care.
Ustad Subhan Sahun, an administrator at the Laskar Pelangi Shelter, expressed his appreciation for the aid and the visit from the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 personnel.
“On behalf of the Laskar Pelangi Child Social Welfare Institution, we extend our deepest gratitude to all members of the Operation Damai Cartenz police force in Mimika Regency,” said Ustad Subhan.
He expressed hope that the aid would help meet the children’s needs and offered prayers for the personnel currently carrying out their duties in Mimika Regency. “May the contributions made be rewarded by God Almighty with abundant blessings and merit. It is our hope that all duties carried out in Mimika Regency will be blessed with safety, smooth execution, and ease, and that everyone will return safely and unharmed,” he said.
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Inspector General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that the event was part of the personnel’s efforts to engage directly with the community.
“During this event, personnel did not merely hand over aid but also joined in playing and interacting with the children. We wanted the event to be informal so that the children could participate in activities with the personnel without the constraints of a formal atmosphere,” said the Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Senior Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., noted that the Psychology Team was involved to ensure the activities were tailored to the children’s needs.
“Play therapy was conducted through simple, enjoyable activities. Personnel were directly involved, ensuring the event was interactive and allowing the children to participate in the games comfortably,” said the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026.
Before leaving the shelter, the personnel, children, and shelter staff took a group photo together.
The visit concluded after the scheduled activities were completed. Aid was handed over to the shelter staff, while the remaining time was spent on games, conversation, and casual interaction between the personnel and the children.
