Mimika, Central Papua — A joint police team from the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 and Task Force Amole-2026 conducted a law enforcement operation targeting GW, an individual listed on the police wanted list, in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The operation was carried out based on the results of investigations, field monitoring, and information gathering concerning GW’s whereabouts. GW is listed as a wanted individual in connection with several criminal cases in Tembagapura and Mimika Regency.
According to police records, GW is linked to Police Report No. LP/55/XI/2017/SEK. TEMBAGAPURA, dated November 14, 2017. He was allegedly involved in a shooting targeting an LWB vehicle in the Mile 69 area of Tembagapura District, which resulted in a victim identified by the initials RTS suffering an injury to the left thigh.
GW is also linked to Police Report No. LP/39/III/2020/RES. MIMIKA, dated March 30, 2020. The case concerns an attack and shooting in the Office Building 1 area of PT Freeport Indonesia in Kuala Kencana, Mimika Regency. The incident resulted in the death of 57-year-old New Zealand national Graeme Thomas Wall and injuries to two other employees.
Head of Public Relation of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., told journalists on Saturday, August 8, that the operation was conducted following a series of investigations and information development carried out by personnel in the field.
“During the law enforcement operation, joint personnel took firm and measured action against the target while adapting to the conditions on the ground. The area consists of steep cliffs and hills. All actions were carried out in accordance with applicable laws,” Yusuf Sutejo said.
As a result of the action, GW sustained injuries to his body. He was subsequently assisted by members of his group, while police personnel continued monitoring the situation around the location.
“Based on information obtained by personnel, GW was subsequently taken by members of his group toward a forested area,” Yusuf added.
Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said the operation against GW was part of law enforcement efforts targeting individuals who have been placed on the police wanted list.
“The action against GW was carried out based on the results of investigations and field monitoring concerning a target who had been placed on the police wanted list and was linked to several cases handled by the police. The entire law enforcement process was conducted professionally, in a measured manner, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” Faizal said.
The Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026 emphasized that law enforcement targets are determined based on investigative findings and information held by the police.
“We ensure that every law enforcement effort is based on investigative findings and information held by the police. GW is a target who has been listed on the police wanted list in connection with several criminal cases. Therefore, the actions taken by personnel were part of the law enforcement process against the target,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., appealed to the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified information.
“We urge the public to remain calm and not be easily influenced by information that has not been verified. We will continue to investigate developments on the ground, and information released to the public will be based on facts verified by personnel,” Adarma Sinaga said.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, together with Task Force Amole-2026, continues to monitor the situation, gather information, and conduct further investigations into developments in the Tembagapura area.
