Jayapura – Jayapura City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Fredrickus Maclarimboen, confirmed that the Jayapura City Police will not issue a permit for the demonstration planned by the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) on Monday (August 3).
“It’s true that we will not issue a permit for the demonstration planned by a group seeking to separate Papua from the Republic of Indonesia,” said Jayapura City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Fredrickus Maclarimboen in Jayapura, Papua, Saturday.
He stated that to anticipate the KNPB demonstration, 1,000 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) personnel have been deployed.
In addition to deploying personnel, the Jayapura City Police will also conduct raids at several locations.
The vehicle raids are being conducted as part of a “condition creation operation” to provide a sense of security to the public.
“The public is also expected to continue their normal activities and not be easily influenced by circulating rumors, including calls for demonstrations,” said Senior Commissioner Fredrickus.
According to him, the overall security situation in the Jayapura City Police jurisdiction is currently relatively safe.
Therefore, it is hoped that this conducive situation will continue to be maintained and that residents will not be easily provoked by rumors.
“We hope that on Monday (August 3rd) public activities will resume as normal, as the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are on standby to provide a sense of security,” said Jayapura City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Fredrickus Maclarimboen.
