Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago, received an audience with Deputy Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) for People’s Welfare, Yorrys Raweyai, and several DPD RI members to discuss strengthening synergy between the central and regional governments in maintaining political stability and national security, as well as accelerating development in Papua.
During the meeting, the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs expressed his appreciation to the DPD RI leadership for their initiative in holding the audience, which is part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the central and regional governments.
“The DPD RI has a strategic position as a bridge for regional aspirations and a partner for the government in ensuring that national policies are effective, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the local community,” said the Coordinating Minister at the Coordinating Minister’s Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (May 13, 2026).
The Coordinating Minister emphasized that political and security stability are key prerequisites for the sustainability of national development and strengthening national unity.
Regarding Papua, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs assessed the need for a comprehensive approach, not only from a security perspective, but also through welfare, dialogue, respect for local wisdom, accelerated development, and improved quality of public services.
“The government remains committed to maintaining Papua as an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) through development that favors the Papuan people,” he emphasized.
The Coordinating Minister expressed his hope that the meeting would result in more concrete coordinating steps between the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in overseeing various national strategic agendas, particularly in Papua.
“Strong collaboration, communication, and synergy between the central and regional governments are expected to result in policies that are more inclusive, responsive, and have a real impact on the community,” said the Coordinating Minister.
Present at the meeting were DPD RI members Dr. Filep Wamafma, SH., M.Hum., C.L.A., Chair of Committee III; Dr. dr. H. Andi Sofyan Hasdam, Sp.N., Chair of the Archipelago Region Bill Team; and Lis Tabuni. Also accompanying the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs were Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus and his deputies.
