NABIRE – The spirit of sportsmanship filled the Old Airport area on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Nabire District, as hundreds of residents took part in the Bhayangkara Fun Run 5K organized by the Central Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua Tengah) in collaboration with Barisan Merah Putih Republik Indonesia (BMP RI) on Saturday (July 4, 2026).
The event, which began at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT), attracted approximately 750 participants from various backgrounds. To ensure fair competition, the organizers divided the race into three categories: students, women, and the men’s open division.
The event was also attended by several regional officials, including Viktor Fun, Assistant III for General Administration at the Central Papua Provincial Secretariat. On the occasion, he expressed his appreciation to the Central Papua Regional Police and all parties involved for organizing a sporting event that not only strengthened community unity but also created opportunities to identify promising athletic talent across Central Papua.
According to Viktor, events such as the Bhayangkara Fun Run serve not only to promote a healthy lifestyle but also to provide young people with a platform to showcase their athletic potential.
“Healthy running, strong spirit, great Indonesia. We must continue to nurture this spirit so that more people embrace sports and our young generation has greater opportunities to develop their talents,” he said.
He expressed hope that similar events would continue to be held regularly and become an integral part of athlete development programs in Central Papua. With sustained coaching and support, talented young runners discovered through competitions like this are expected to grow into athletes capable of competing at the national level.
Viktor also encouraged all participants to use the competition as motivation to improve their skills and athletic achievements, rather than focusing solely on winning.
“Continue to seize every opportunity to train, compete with integrity, and develop your potential. We hope that Central Papua will produce outstanding athletes who will proudly represent the province on the national stage,” he concluded.
