Jayapura, Papua – The Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) emphasizes its commitment to ensure that all school-age children receive the right to education without exception. Through various programs that have been prepared, local governments try to prevent children from dropping out of school due to economic constraints or limited access.
Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru, said that education is a basic right of every child that must be fulfilled. Therefore, the Jayapura City Government will continue to present policies that support all children so that they can receive proper education.
“All children should get an education. For that, the government is ready to help so that no children drop out of school,” said Rustan in Jayapura, Wednesday.
As a form of support for the program, the Jayapura City Government ensures that the entire process of accepting new students (PPDB) in public schools is carried out free of charge. This policy is expected to ease the burden of parents as well as provide equal opportunities for all prospective students to access education.
In addition to making the registration process free, the government also prepares school supplies assistance for new students in public schools. The assistance includes the provision of Papuan batik uniforms and sports uniforms as part of the effort to support the basic needs of students when starting the new school year.
However, Rustan explained that for the national uniform, namely a white shirt with a red undershirt for elementary school (SD), a white shirt with a dark blue undershirt for junior high school (SMP), and a white shirt with a gray undershirt for high school (SMA), it is still expected to be fulfilled independently by parents.
According to him, the policy is taken by considering the regional fiscal capacity that is still limited, so that the government prioritizes assistance to the needs that can be reached through the available budget.
Through these various steps, the Jayapura City Government hopes that all school-age children can get equal learning opportunities, so that no more children lose their education rights due to cost constraints or limited facilities.
