JAKARTA, Indonesia – Several regional governments across Papua have received awards from Indonesia’s Ministry of Home Affairs in recognition of their achievements in promoting development and improving community welfare. The awards highlight the positive progress being made by local administrations through programs that deliver tangible benefits to the public.
Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said the awards were designed to encourage healthy competition among regional governments while showcasing successful development initiatives implemented across the country, including in Papua.
“The purpose is to motivate regional governments, create a competitive spirit that encourages progress among local administrations, and demonstrate that many regional governments are achieving remarkable accomplishments, not only facing challenges,” Tito said.
According to the minister, the awards were presented to local governments that demonstrated outstanding performance and measurable impact in improving the welfare of their communities.
The assessment covered four key categories: poverty and stunting reduction, creative financing initiatives, inflation control, and unemployment reduction. These indicators were used to identify regions that have successfully implemented effective policies and development programs.
The recognition reflects the commitment of regional governments in Papua to addressing development challenges while improving public services and creating better opportunities for local communities.
In addition to trophies and certificates, award recipients also received fiscal incentive funds from the central government. The funding is expected to support further development initiatives and strengthen public services in their respective regions.
Tito emphasized that the awards are intended not only as recognition for achievements already made but also as motivation for regional governments to continue innovating and improving their performance.
“We hope this initiative will encourage regional governments to remain enthusiastic and motivated in delivering better services and development outcomes for their communities,” he said.
The awards also send a positive message about Papua’s development progress. Achievements in controlling inflation, reducing poverty and stunting, expanding employment opportunities, and improving governance demonstrate the growing capacity of regional governments to deliver meaningful results for their people.
Through this recognition, the Ministry of Home Affairs hopes to encourage continued innovation and collaboration among local administrations, ultimately contributing to stronger human resource development, improved public welfare, and sustainable growth throughout Papua.
