Jayapura – Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Ribka Haluk stated that the regional performance awards presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) are an instrument to strengthen the governance of the Papuan Regional Government (Pemda) while simultaneously encouraging improvements in the quality of public services.
“I, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, express my appreciation and congratulations to the regional governments, provinces, and regencies/cities that have received awards from the Ministry of Home Affairs for their achievements and performance,” Ribka said in Jayapura, Papua, Tuesday.
According to her, the awards are not merely a form of recognition for regional success, but also serve as motivation for all regional governments to continuously improve the quality of governance, public services, and development that directly impacts the community.
“Therefore, this award presented by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian should serve as an encouragement to continuously improve the quality of public services,” she said.
She explained that the program to recognize high-performing regional governments will be implemented in several rounds. Therefore, regions that have not received awards in this round are expected to evaluate and improve the various assessment indicators.
“We hope that regional governments that have not yet received awards for their good governance will receive them in the next round,” he said.
Ribka stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs also assesses that several regions still need to improve several aspects, including the effectiveness of development programs, budget management, and innovation in public services. She believes these improvements are crucial for optimal government performance and the ability to meet public needs.
“The award system implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs also aims to create healthy competition between regions. This way, each regional government is encouraged to continue innovating and improving development outcomes in their respective areas,” she said.
She explained that the award program for outstanding regional governments is one of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ efforts to encourage improved regional government performance through a measurable, indicator-based award mechanism. The program is implemented in six regions: Sumatra, Java-Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku-Nusa Tenggara, and Papua.
“The regional division is implemented so that regions with different fiscal capacities and characteristics can compete more fairly in demonstrating their development and governance achievements,” she said.
He added that the awards were given based on regional performance achievements in four main categories: unemployment reduction, creative financing, inflation control, poverty alleviation and stunting reduction.
“Through these awards, we hope that regional governments will be further motivated to deliver effective, accountable governance that is oriented toward improving public welfare,” he said.
Previously, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk attended the regional government awards ceremony held in Jayapura City, Papua, on Monday (June 22).
