Timika – The commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability continues to be strengthened through collaboration between PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and the Mimika Regency Government. In order to commemorate World Environment Day 2026, PTFI held an Environmental Exhibition activity at the courtyard of the Eme Neme Yauware Building, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, Friday (6/5/2026).
The environmental exhibition becomes an educational forum as well as an invitation to the community to increase concern for the environment through various activities that are oriented towards waste management, nature conservation, and reducing the impact of climate change.
Carrying the national theme “Working for Climate” and the company theme “Be the Solution, Not the Pollution: Recycle and Conserve”, this activity reflects the joint commitment between the business world, the government, and the community in supporting sustainable development that is environmentally friendly.
Various information and innovations related to environmental management are displayed in the exhibition. The community, students, and various institutions that attended were given the opportunity to gain knowledge about the importance of maintaining the ecosystem, reducing the use of materials that pollute the environment, and optimizing waste recycling efforts.
Environmental Exhibition is also a means to introduce various sustainability programs that have been carried out by PTFI in supporting environmental preservation in Papua, including waste management, land rehabilitation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education programs for the community.
As part of the World Environment Day commemoration series, PTFI has previously carried out an environmental cleanup action on May 6, 2026 in the Tembagapura area. The activity succeeded in collecting 330 kilograms of waste which was then sorted and managed according to environmental management procedures.
Through this activity, PTFI hopes that public awareness of the importance of maintaining the environment can continue to increase so that a culture of clean living and caring for the sustainable environment is created.
Collaboration between local governments, the private sector, and the community is considered to be the key in facing the challenges of climate change and maintaining environmental sustainability for future generations. With the spirit of World Environment Day 2026, all parties are invited to be part of the solution through real action in protecting the earth and the surrounding environment.
