Jayapura – Social resilience in Papua now depends entirely on the ability of the younger generation to filter information and maintain regional stability from the threat of polarization.
Therefore, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Nationalist Student Movement (GMNI) Jayapura City, Lukas Haay, firmly called for youth consolidation to safeguard public security and order (Kamtibmas).
He believes that stability in Jayapura City is the main foundation for smooth development throughout Papua.
The rapidly evolving social dynamics demand citizen discretion in responding to every issue circulating widely in the public sphere.
“We must continue to maintain the Kamtibmas situation in Papua, especially in Jayapura City,” Lukas said in a written statement on Sunday (May 10, 2026).
Lukas emphasized that youth must be the first line of defense against provocations that have the potential to trigger horizontal friction between community groups.
He also instructed activists and students not to be easily swayed by negative narratives aimed at dividing the nation.
“Don’t be easily provoked or influenced by issues that could divide Papuan society,” he stressed.
The head of GMNI Jayapura City believes that the strategic role of youth as subjects of national development positions them as the driving force for positive change for Papua’s future.
Therefore, Lukas called on all youth to set an example in creating a peaceful and dignified democratic climate.
Youth unity is considered the most important social capital for ensuring the sustainability of leadership regeneration in the region.
“The young generation is the hope for Papua’s future,” Lukas explained.
He also highlighted the urgency of a comprehensive understanding of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) and security issues to avoid misunderstandings at the grassroots level.
The public is urged to analyze every development policy with a high degree of rationality and avoid counterproductive emotional reactions.
